Hello all ... FYI, we will be creating new forums specifically for Q&A geared towards undergraduate students. Our goal is to have a section of the forums that are more suited to the kinds of issues that younger users who have neither the computing or math experience, may have. We'll be uploading the test groups this week and the forums should be live by the end of the week. We'll also do subsequent refinements in the autumn once Will gets back. Tom 4.
Hello all ... FYI, our site master Will Spaetzel is getting married this weekend. Please join me in congratulating him and his new bride Laura-Lee on their new life together! Many happy wishes to you two! The bad news is, during his absence (for a couple of weeks), some technical issues with this site may be a bit slower in resolving. We have back-up editors for Will but Will has special talents that are hard to match. Thanks for your patience. Tom 4.
Hello all. At the company, we've recently had discussions on the future of printed manuals. Many software companies are moving towards CD-only packaging for many reasons. Today, if you buy the full professional version of Maple, you get all manuals printed. I just wanted to get a sense of your feelings on paper vs. electronic manuals. Thanks. T4.
I am currently in Kuala Lumpur teaching a Maple course and I'm showing the participants MaplePrimes ... say hi to our Malaysian friends. Salam!

Hello all ... while I was in Japan, Paul Goossens filled in for me as guest host of MapleCast Episode 10. Special guest is Dr. Marvin Weinstein of the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center (SLAC). Paul also interviews yours truly while I try to recover from jet lag in Philadelphia.

The episode is called Surviving Math education and the guest is Jack Weiner, author of the book, and e-book the Mathematics Survival Kit.
Continuing on the theme of the last poll on "pencil and paper", let's dig into the calculator scene a bit. In earlier times (i.e. 20 years ago), there were two types of calculators and calculator users: those who lived and breathed RPN and those who stared at RPN users in disbelief :-) Let's see what kind of calculator you are ... Maplesoft just released a new e-book called the Mathematics Survival Kit, adaptation of a popular reference book for high school and early collegiate math. It's a pretty interesting work in its writing style, content, and its use of Maple 10's document mode features. T4.
The next episode of the MapleCast podcast series is out. It's called "The Business of Math" and is a look at the non-technical side of the math software business. The guest speaker is Dr. Paul Bragg, a scientist who founded a major scientific sales business in England. T4.
