what about connections between mapleprimes and comp.soft-sys.math.maple ?
is it possible to build a "bridge" bewteen them?
for instance a "forum" in mapleprimes which will recieve all comp.soft-sys.math.maple posts, or a link to open it into the mapleprimes central frame. we could use the google interface?
it will be easier to have only one place to concentrate all informations about maple...
Hmm
comp.soft-sys.math.maple often carries many postings each day and is not moderated. Some posts there are unconnected with Maple and some is near-spam, so the workload on MaplePrimes' moderator would increase sharply. Great if Maplesoft is happy to do this, but we should remember that Maplesoft is a commercial enterprise and we all want it to stay in business.

business?
I known that "Maplesoft is a commercial enterprise", thanks.
do you think that offering a spammed newsgroup is good for a "commercial enterprise"?
or do you mean that the purpose of mapleprimes forums is to replace the newsgroup?
It is a matter of freedom
I think that it is better that the newsgroup and mapleprimes remain separeted...
Maplesoft offers this "official" forum, the users are free to build others...
For Maplesoft it would be an additional work to check all the posts in the newsgroup, for some users it would seem a restriction of their freedom if Maplesoft controlled their posts in a site owned by google, not by Maplesoft...
And what would happen if another newsgroup were created in the world, followed by another one and so on?
I don't think that the purpose of mapleprimes forum is to replace the newsgroup, but I think that it is simply to offer to the users a place where the correctness of the answers is checked by the authors of the software...
Even if I saw that moderators in this forum allow some criticisms, probably in the newsgroup there is more freedom to criticize the software or the company or to make comparisons between Maple and other similar software like Mathematica (for example).
However, I agree that this is a technical forum, so questions and critics are mainly related on how to solve mathematical problems with Maple and in mathematics most of the times it is quite easy to decide who is right...
Nevertheless, since it does not take a lot of time to look in two or three sites and to search on the web, I don't feel the need to have one place where to discuss and to reach all that it is related with Maple...

Purpose of MaplePrimes
Thanks for the suggestion. The intent of Primes isn't to replace the Newsgroups. I think there's always a place for an unmoderated public forum. The fact that Primes is supported by the company allows us to do a lot more than public groups. I cite the various content upload tools, direct connection to developers, content feeds, etc. At this point our preference is to keep the two worlds separate so that we can continue to explore new ways of developing our user community.

And it seems to work really well
As can be seen from my frequent posts, I really like MaplePrimes. It "works" well on two fronts: the technology is smooth, and the user-to-user interactions are really good. The site seems to have developed a certain style, where people are helpful and polite. But the site is also not a mouth-piece, which I think has greatly contributed to its (relative) success.
It is too bad that the activity (from the community) on the site isn't a bit higher. Perhaps it would be worth asking those people who once were fairly active on Primes, why they decided to leave.
more links
may be the best solution is to add a section called "my links", similar to "my blog" and "my files", so any user could insert in its mapleprimes view...
