Maple Slow on Laptop..?

I've had several problems with my Maple installation on my Dell labtop with Xp Pro, sp2, 2GHz Dual core, and 1024 ram.

When the AC-adapter is plugged in it works like a charm, but when it only runs on battery, it will not operate to its best!
It slows down, and chokes on all operations. I have problems while scrolling down on the page, and everytime any item is selected.

I have tried several things in the option menu, but none seem to work.. Maybe the wrong combination.

The battery setting of my computer is working at optimal. I have tried with setting it to full speed and all the settings on the full scale.. Still no good.

I have the latest Java installed.. And I have furthermore tried to increase the allowed memoryusage of Java to the full scale. I should notice that i have also tried several other combinations of this setting. All from 300 MB to the 1000 MB ram.

Many of my fellow students have the same problem, and even one of my teachers is experiencing this too. So therefore it must be a know problem to Maplesoft... ? Or am I completely wrong?

Please help me... I enjoy using Maple and all of its functions.

Just for the record... I am using Maple 10.06, also with only 10.05, same problem.

Your computer is throttling the processor

Most laptop computers throttle the CPU to a lower speed. Although you noted setting the laptop to "full speed", this really is the likely cause of the problem. Use SpeedSwitchXP to set the processor speed exactly:

Note that some Dell laptops will also slow down the CPU using the BIOS after the machine has been under heavy load for a while. I don't know of any safe way to prevent that.

Same problem on my laptop

I had the same problem with my Acer laptop but it also begin working poorly when the AC was plugged in. As it turned out, my power management software got stuck on the battery power saving mode (i.e. CPU setting to slow) even when plugged in. When I realized this, I reset the CPU setting to max even on battery power and everything has been working since. So for me there was something odd about the power management software (i.e. not behaving as it should). If you've checked all this already, perhaps you should try googling for others with the same laptop model who have had problems with the power management software. Sorry I can't be of any more help. Speedswicth

Hmmm..
I should have mentioned it... I have speedswitch, and am very fond of it. But it still doesn't work with Max performance.

I have also tried disabling the throttle down setting in bios, so that it always ran on maximum speed clock.

None seem to work.

And googling i have, plenty of googling. None would help.. As i have heard many others with the same problem i think there is some error in the Maple code of handling java, or a java error...
