system set back time

Hello, i get the following error each time maple i started:

FlexIm error: -88,309 "System clock has been set back"
Maple asks to reactivate, once done that successfully Maple says that after starting Maple again everything will work properly. But it doesn't work, I get once again the same error and the question to reactivate.

The error is known by MapleSoft, I got this information:
"FLEXlm checks the computer for files with a timestamp beyond the current date. If there are files with a creation date in the future of what the current system clock reads, FLEXlm will return this error. These files must have been created when the clock was set incorrectly. We suggest the user conducts an advanced file search to find the files that are causing the problem.".

Is there someone who recognise this problem and knows how to solve it??

thanks, Jonas

Two solutions

The two solutions are as follows:

1) Do a search of your hard drive to find the offending files that have a creation date that is future compared to your current system time and date.

2) Contact Maplesoft Customer Service to get another license file.

Which files?

I presume the rationale here is that if somebody has a license that expires on a certain date, Flexlm doesn't want them setting their system clock back before that date in order to run the software.

On the other hand, I might happen to have some files on my computer with incorrect dates, and it's really none of Flexlm's business.  Moreover, there may be privacy and security issues here: a well-mannered program should not be looking into directories where I haven't told it to look.  Maybe I have confidential information there.

I also wonder what happens if I take my laptop across the International Date Line so that I have to set my clock back one day...

a real mess

in former times i used to change system times for testing several Excel solutions (to see, whether they work correctly beyond certain date switches having a complicated trading calendar) or old sheets (having time values to be set only through system time, back from a productive environment) or Word macros (dito) or compiled DLLs (similar).

That would totaly mess up any Maple installation , no?

Possibly

The FLEXlm program would only complain if you had a timed copy of Maple.  If you had purchased a cheaper 1 year copy of Maple as a student, this would happen but any permanent copies of Maple should never use this feature of FLEXlm of checking dates.  According to the documentation on FLEXlm from Macrovision

"FLEXlm detects when systems have had their dates set more than 24 hours back, and prevents users from using expired licenses by setting the clock back."

Therefore going across the date line shouldn't cause any problems (although I haven't tested this out personally).

testing ...

well, I would not want to test it on my own PC, but if i have some time may be i will try to install and test it at work (this usually means to buy some icecream for the admins and otherwise keep them busy by complaining formatting problems while printing letters on various printers through the company or so ...)

It works now

I have been i touch with Maplesoft technical support, and they have modified my license file. So It works now...
