I just mean something that does all kinds of algebra and stuff, and is versatile like Maple. Obviously I wouldn't expect it to be as powerful or anything, but does anyone know of anything like this?
I just tried to access that Oracles site and got the following error:
This site's MapleNet has similar and other problems all the time - I rarely can access a worksheet from a link to it.
Alec
PS When I first heard about that site (Oracles), I thought - what a great idea - beats Wolfram integrals.com. Then I visited it and thought - uh-oh, what a bad representation of Maple - so slow, with so many errors, inconvenient to use. But now, after using Standard Maple for a while (from time to time, for this site postings), I started to think that may be not - that gives a pretty good idea of what Standard Maple is (Classic is still different fortunately.) -Alec
I get that too. But, after clicking "Always trust content from this publisher" and "Run", I find the things I tried don't work very well at all.
First I tried Integration. At first I didn't get an entry box at all. Then I got one, but anything I tried to integrate gave me "Error: enter your function in the input". Now I tried integrating x^2, and I get 1/3*x^3 + x^2 + x.
I also tried Matrix Inverse, but the inverse of every matrix I try comes out as the identity matrix.
I'm not sure of the exact reason, but sometimes you have to click twice in the boxes to get Java to accept your entry - from the problems you're finding it seems like those oracles are just calculating from the default values, and not taking whatever you enter. Make sure you double click and can actually select and delete the box contents first, and then type in your own values.

PS I'm also also on Firefox 3.0.8, but on XP - I'll try to verify it works ok on Vista.
The security warning is nothing to be concerned with (it's actually warning as opposed to an error). This is just telling the user that the digital signature is trusted but it has expired. However the behaviour that Robert is seeing is very strange.
The jar files needed to run the math oracles are quite large and could take a minute to download and cache in the client's Java Cache (not the browser cache). So the applets used in these worksheets won't be responsive until Java has finished downloading all the jar files. It's also possible that 1 or more of these jar files on the computer are incomplete or otherwise corrupt.
I do have a few suggestions:
• clear the browser cache (in Firefox go to "Tools - Clear Private Data", select all the check boxes and click "Clear Private Data Now")
• clear the Java cache (in Windows go to the Control Panel - Java, click the Settings button below Temporary Internet Files, then click Delete Files)
• Test your Java installation (http://www.java.com/en/download/help/testvm.xml)
• Make sure Java is up to date (http://www.java.com/en/download/index.jsp)
OK. The test applet said I was using Java 6 update 11. I updated to 13.
I tried Integration. I find the applets very slow to load. Finally I was able to double-click in the
text box, backspace to delete the default content, and then type sin(x). I click on Integrate, and it tells me:
Invalid Worksheet Session
This session has expired, or the worksheet was closed from another window.
Reload Integrals.mw
OK, I'll reload. Now there are no text boxes at all!
I click again on Integration in the menu on the left. There are three Java "clocks" turning around where the inputs and output should be.
After several minutes, I can finally enter something. I click Integrate, and again it tells me Invalid Worksheet Session..
I tried it again, and it works now. I was doing it from home last time and from work this time: I guess my Internet connection may be better here, although I haven't noticed it being slow at home for other applications.
Tell me Robert, how do you manage to put your response between two other responses, making it look as you had respond before me, relegating me at the end? Sometimes, when things like that is done, it make it harder to follow the order of the discussion wich, in some case, show the step of "creativity" for the solution.

Online Math Oracles
You might find the Online Math Oracles on the Maplesoft Student Center more helpful:

These Oracles are web-based math tools that solve common math problems.
Digital Signature
I just tried to access that Oracles site and got the following error:

Double-click
I did that. Here's a screen shot.

It work well for me
and don't forget that Maplesoft state that:
Please note that the Online Math Oracles are currently in beta testing
I am using Firefox 3.0.8 under XP SP3 in french.
