<itunes:summary>
Darin,

Thanks for the news on the new parallelism features in Maple 14. Am I correct in assuming that these features can be used on a single machine with a multi-core processor? I'm building a new machine with an Intel Core i7 Quad-Core processor, 8 GB of RAM, and 64-bit Windows 7. Are there any special issues with parallelism in Maple 14 on this computing platform?

I just noticed that you've written a whole series of articles on parallelism in Maple. I've bookmarked your blog and look forward to studying your articles!

Thanks again,

Fred

@fwchapman That setup sounds fine.

      <itunes:summary>
@fwchapman That setup sounds fine. The most important aspect is probably the processor and RAM. The Core i7 performs better when executing parallel code than older processors. Of course, more RAM is almost always better. There are no limitations that are particular to your setup, but parallel programming in Maple does have some limitations, which I outlined in a previous blog post.

More RAM isn't alwyas better. I've been running Maple 10 and when I upgraded my laptop to 2 Gb of RAM, Maple wouldn't start anymore. Anyone know of a good work around for this issue? BTW, Maple Classic starts OK, just Maple for Windows that is giving trouble.
</itunes:summary>

This is actually a known issue with older versions of Java (like the one Maple 10 uses). You can find the solution here:

   http://www.maplesoft.com/support/faqs/detail.aspx?sid=32618

Basically you'll just need to add a line like "maxheap=700m" to Maple's launch.ini file.

</itunes:summary>

      <itunes:summary>
I would love to see more details on External Calling. What I really want is to be able to write programs that execute on a GPU and then call them from Maple, with or without having them called in parallel.
</itunes:summary>
