&lt;p&gt;I think there was a way to fix it but I couldn't remember.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Anyways, there are some world maps (cylindrical projection) someone has put together on the public domain here http://www.evl.uic.edu/pape/data/Earth/&amp;nbsp; linked from this page http://vterrain.org/Imagery/WholeEarth/&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;For me on M12 using the spherical option gives me that mosaic look, so I used coords=cylindrical just for display purposes, nothing fancy.&amp;nbsp; Here's the cylindrical look to my image&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Here is the code if you wanted some animation.&amp;nbsp; Just some small modification to the last line in Johns code above, I also change n:=128 to speed it up a bit but after a few runs my Maple has become slow and unresponsive.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;As an experiment, I was trying to map a photo of the surface of Mars, but got the following error message:&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Error: the number of colours in the COLOUR structure is not sufficient.&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Any idea what that is about?&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;The image is this one: &amp;nbsp;(Edit: changed the url)&lt;br&gt;http://planetologia.elte.hu/ipcd/mars_albedo_big.jpg&lt;br&gt;Image possibly copyrighted, so I'm not posting it, just pointing to it.&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;1. @WindowsUser: Here's how I accessed tree.jpg on my system:&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;2. @Christopher222: I've had no memory problem with the following animation:&lt;/p&gt;
