False claim?

      <itunes:summary>
I am not a current Maple T.A. user, but, in response to an unsolicited email, I have just watched the promotional video "Top 10 Reasons You Need Maple T.A."

The description of this video claims "Maple T.A. is the only testing and assessment system designed for courses involving mathematics", and this claim is repeated in the opening script of the video. I challenge this claim.

Our university mathematics department has been using the proprietary system WebAssign for " testing and assessment" for a number of years and as far as I can see it has all of the features described in the promotional video for Maple T.A.

Perhaps Maple TA. does things better than WebAssign, has features that WebAssign does not, is cheaper or has other benefits, but the claim that Maple T.A. is the ONLY testing and assessment system designed for courses involving mathematics is patently false.

I have cross-posted the above to a WebAssign blog. I have no commercial interest in WebAssign. The company claims that in 2012 WebAssign

Was used at 2,548 educational institutions

By 13,763 instructors

And by over 1 million students worldwide!

so, I suggest, cannot be dismissed as insignificant in the field.
</itunes:summary>

      <itunes:summary>
See here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WebAssign concerning WebAssign. The words of msboz are not based. Of course, Maple T.A. is not the only system to test math knowledge PS. and that fact is noticed in the post: see Adaptive Testing.
</itunes:summary>

      <itunes:summary>
Thank you for pointing out the Wikipedia article. However it is only a 'stub' and unfortunately is not as objective as one might hope for from Wikipedia (for example it twice uses the perjorative term 'touted'). But anyway I am in no way trying to promote WebAssign (after all there are other examples, such as MyMathLab) - I am merely using it as evidence to refute MapleSoft's silly claim about the uniqueness of Maple T.A.

"The words of msboz are not based." ---- Sorry but I do not understand this sentence.

"Of course, Maple T.A. is not the only system to test math knowledge." ------ Then why does MapleSoft claim that it is?

      <itunes:summary>
1. You wrote:" "The words of msboz are not based." ---- Sorry but I do not understand this sentence".
It means that you claim
"The company claims that in 2012 WebAssign

   • Was used at 2,548 educational institutions
   •By 13,763 instructors
   •And by over 1 million students worldwide!" without any reference.

2. You wrote: " "Of course, Maple T.A. is not the only system to test math knowledge." ------ Then why does MapleSoft claim that it is?".
Where do you see that statement in http://www.maplesoft.com/ or in other place? By the way, the poster wrote: "Expanding on the adaptive question type first introduced in Maple T.A. 8, Maple T.A. 9 offers
adaptive testing at the assignment level that is more flexible than any other system" (Bolding is mine.).
</itunes:summary>

      <itunes:summary>
Thank you for your clarification Markiyan.

1. The WebAssign claim is in a January 1 2013 post from Annie McQuaid entitled "Happy New Year from WebAssign". http://webassignwired.webassign.net/

2. The Maple T.A. claim is on the web page entitled "Top 10 Reasons You Need Maple T.A. - Maplesoft" and is also the first statement of the video on that page.http://www.maplesoft.com/products/mapleta/demo/MapleTA8.aspx?p=TC-3088 . This is the page I was directed to via a hyperlink "watch a video" in the email I spoke of in my original comment.
</itunes:summary>
