<itunes:summary>
That book came packaged with the very first Maple version I purchased Maple Vr3. Great to see Maplesoft's pro-active environmental move. I could tie in one point here, and that is if versions were released once every 2 years that would have also cut down on new printed manuals.

Personally I like printed manuals, seeing now that those versions will be discontinued will there be discounted prices on older printed manual versions?
</itunes:summary>

      <itunes:summary>
Quite right, we don't need printed manuals.

But please, don't say you stop printing manuals to help save the environment.

Stopping because it does not make sense economically is a good enough reason!
</itunes:summary>

I do need printed manuals

      <itunes:summary>
I do not agree.

Printed manuals are better for my eyes.

It is not clear that there is a total carbon footprint reduction. Not cutting down trees and not shipping books will reduce carbon emissions on that side. But having to read those books electronically will increase the carbon footprint at this side (in particular more production of electricity for computers, air conditioning, etc).

And economically, it means a transfer of costs from Maplesoft to the users.

So, I see this decision as bad.
</itunes:summary>

      <itunes:summary>
There already are more articulate discussions of the relation between printing manuals and the environment, but just to chip in:

I plant a tree -> I create a tree.

I stop someone from cutting a tree -> I save a tree.

I refrain from cutting a tree -> I do neither of the above.
</itunes:summary>

old manuals

      <itunes:summary>
@Christopher2222

You were wondering about buying old manuals. The Maple 16 manuals are available on our web store today, for anyone who wants to pick up a set. Once Maple 17 comes out, we’ll look at how many copies of the Maple 16 manuals we have left, if any, and decide then what to do with them. Selling them at a discount may be an option, though it's too early to promise anything.

In case you are interested, you can by a new copy of First Leaves on Amazon for under $4!
