why you want that?

      <itunes:summary>
Having XP (on a quite moderate machine) and older Maple I can not reproduce
your problem (but killed that for large N) - but what sholud it be good for?

More or less you have numbers between +-1 and plot them as horzontal lines,
for large N that will give almost a black box.

So: what do you want & expect?
</itunes:summary>

32 or 64 bits?

      <itunes:summary>
This may not be your problem, but I know there are problems installing 32 bits versions of Maple on a 64 bits machine, and perhaps vice versa; for instance 64 bits does not support "classic" gui, as far as I know.
</itunes:summary>

Thanks for responding.  The plotted

      <itunes:summary>
Thanks for responding. The plotted data is just an example, and the result you obtained is what I expect and also obtain on my old XP machine. I could have used any other function. That is not my problem. The problem is that I do not get that plot on my VISTA machine when N is sufficiently large; i.e when N=180, MAPLE just stalls and no plot appears. So this seems to be a problem for plots of datasets above a certain size, on my installation of MAPLE 14 on VISTA.

      <itunes:summary>
I run the 32bit version of Maple, including Classic, on a 64bit Windows 7 Pro machine and have not seen any problems specific to that configuration.

Where did you get this idea, that 64bit Windows will not run 32bit Maple (including Classic)? I don't know that it is true in any significant way. (Certainly the Maplesoft M14 system requirements webpage states this info wrongly. Better to see Microsoft's own FAQ on this topic, which suggests that success is the norm in this regard.)

I will try the poster's code, in both Windows 7 Pro 64bit as well as in Windows XP64, using 32bit Maple for both, and report.

Ok, one to report: On Windows XP64 (a 64bit Windows platoform) the code and plot worked fine for N=400 or N=2000 in both the Classic and Standard GUIs of 32bit Maple 14.

nb. I'm just addressing Patrick's remarks about 32/64bit in this comment (which I believe to be mistaken) and not the OP's issues on Vista.
