Why does Maple put a space?

This "feature" appeared in Maple 11 Standard GUI. This means, at a time of consolidation of 2-D input. Consequently, may be that the designers of this GUI like it this way. Sadly, this information is not available to the users. Many features of this GUI cannot be configured. In particular this space insertion, I think.

I almost never use 2D-input. I only use it when it is part of someone else's worksheet that I'm playing around with. The only way that I know how to get a new line is Control-Enter, same as in 1D input. When I use that, I don't get the extra space. What is the usual way to get a new line, the way that does give the extra space?

I always use Shift + Enter. After ?worksheet,reference,hotwin or ?worksheet,reference,hotunix :

Shift + Enter Soft New Line

It inserts a new line both in 1-D or 2-D input. For the latter, it produces this space feature.

On the other hand, Ctrl + Enter inserts a page break for me. And this is what the above linked help pages state.

Oops, I meant Shift-Enter also. Control-Enter gives me the page break in both 1D and 2D. Shift-Enter gives me a newline in both, but no extra space.
