&lt;p&gt;My guess (and it's only a guess until I see the example) is that you have a parameter with the same name as a global variable and that you're unintentionally using both in the main function. I'd be able to tell in 5 seconds if I saw an example. Making it a procedure will not help. You should never have to cut-and-paste to fix these things; almost everything can be handled programmatically/algebraically in Maple.&lt;/p&gt;</itunes:summary>
