I find that the package MmaTranslator in Maple 13 and 16 has exactly the same procedures, modules, etc. So, except for changes that may have occured in the code of these members, it seems like there was no significant changes since this package was introduced. Meaning that, rather than improved, it may be even less useful than originally, because of the changes in both languages, as you have described.

Besides, this translator was rather buggy as introduced, except for the simplest Mathematica constructs. It should be rechecked whether any of those bugs was fixed...

Certainly, the Mathematica language uses a lot of operators that may make its code both compact and cryptic. I find that most of these constructs have an associated function call form that frequently looks rather similar to Maple constructs.

On the other hand, compactness of the code is not necessarily correlated with its efficiency when running. That is, some more verbose Maple code may run much faster than its more compact Mathematica counterpart. Efficiency may depend on the implemented algorithms, data structures, the architecture of the system, etc. This is a matter for comparative reviews.

I mention about 1 reply down the first page that pops up in google search from the internet sea using the tags ` Maple Mathematica and Matlab ` is http://amath.colorado.edu/computing/mmm/ the same page I mention above. Ironically today that same page is still first in the list and nothing has changed. And the 3M coding war-room hasn't started yet, I would start it but I haven't got any time.

I didn't think there was much advancement in that area, as the more important focus (of course) is Maple itself.

Probably best left up to users to make their own translation and ask for help here. Makes sense, after-all why should Maple spend time catering to get Mathematica code into Maple. It is a daunting if not almost impossible task to get perfect anyway.

The last revision of a Maple converter for Mathematica was 1998 ! I am sure Wolfram has dropped all developement in that area and has focused on the core itself. Unless Maple has spare resources to devote improving or upgrading the Mma translator then I guess it doesn't really make sense to. It's not really a value added option for Maple anyway... well, it is kind of, but it doesn't outweigh the benefits if those resources were concentrated on the core product.

Usually I find translations between the 3 M's written by someone who is fully versed in 1 language and only partially versed in the others. Take this location http://amath.colorado.edu/computing/mmm/ someone has shown how a particular operation could be coded in various languages and obviously he was not Maple savvy as many areas of Maple code were left undone and hasn't been updated for quite some time.

A better similar website could be constructed that would be advantageous to users of all platforms.

An earlier initiative in this line was the Rosetta Stone. I think that the required expertise and maintenance of such a site can only be provided in a collaborative framework.
