I have been trying to get a numerical solution to the following ode system for weeks. I am new to Maple, and I think my issues might be with the coding rather than the maths.

I get the error message:

Error, (in dsolve/numeric/checksing) ode system has a removable singularity at t=0. Initial data is restricted to {v(t) = 0., Phi(t) = 0.}

I know there is a singularity at t=0, so I tried setting the 'range' option to something just above 0, but it is still not working.

I hope I don't get flamed here, but I have run into a lot of difficulty trying to do something that I consider a basic required feature of any analysis and visualization tool. I'm talking about labelling plots (titles, captions, axes, legends, etc.) with both text and greek symbols (at least!). Anyways, I have become very frustrated at this, and now I am trying to make a case for why this should be clarified and simplified for those of us who have Maple (I have both Maple 10 and Maple 11 for what it's worth) in the hopes that the powers that be make this a priority.

While trying to learn how to use styles, I observed puzzling behavior in two ways: styles were changing that I had not changed, and images seemed to be moved around in table cells. I created this document so that I could see how each style worked, and, to my surprise, found that the Normal style affected other styles in an unpredictable fashion.

 is it possible to convert tree-expression to numeral expresion using Maple?

i have tree expression and i wanna convert it to numeral expression. for simple example, i have this tree expression:

/ ( * (x1,x1) , + (x1,x1) )

then i wanna get this numeral expression:

x1*x1 / x1+x1


what should i do? thanks....

Hi All, 

I am working on a numerical simulation of a system of ODEs that blows up when I do a numerical solution. One of my advisors says to multiply  the ODEs in my system by -1 to reverse the role of the eigen values. I only vaguely understand this. Would you be able to point me in the right direction to figure this out? When I do this (-1 in front of two of the ODEs), my results are much more stable. I will attach the ODE system here. The parameter values follow.

i have study maple for many days .now i have two questions about DAE with bvp probelem . maple 11 doesn't seem to solve the problems.the two problems are similar.

the question one is :

k1'(t)= -1              (1)      

k1(t)-2*a(t)*k2(t)=0       (2)

a(t)=v'(t)                 (3 )    

I was curious if anyone has every seen an english translation of Jordan's Cours d' Analyse. I've read many author comments praising his work and was interested in trying to find a copy in english. Anyone care to comment?



In a previous comment, J. Tarr asks "what is Maple primarily intended to do?", and suggests that I might have something to say on the topic.

I have a set of partial differential equations and one unknown function f(u,v) which must contain u*Heaviside(u) and v*Heaviside(v) multiplications. Heaviside(u) is the Heaviside step function for the parameter u and it is already defined in Maple.

The solution should come in terms of these multiplications, that is, u or v, or Heaviside(u) or Heaviside(v) cannot occur alone.

I tried a solution of the form,

Maple includes a useful StringTools:-Entropy procedure which computes the Shannon Entropy, or Information Entropy of a string.  Wikipedia has a nice article describing the measure online at  I wanted to compute this value over a Matrix so I wrote the following procedure.  Let me know if you have any comments or improvements on the implementation.

Because of John's answer to my last comment about a Maple wiki, I have searched first for antecedents in Maple Primes. From the many posts found in this search, I put together here what I consider the main points stated so far.

writedata requires me to know whether the thing I will be writing is string, integer or floating.

I want to write a matrix where the type of entries can vary.

I was playing with a problem from the Maple NG, one can state it as
  Int( arccos(x) / ( 1+x^4) , x=0 .. 1)

Maple 11.02 gives a result, which numerical can not be valid.

Using real (!) partial fractions (Maple uses decomposition over the
complex, no?) I got a similar problem with denominator = parabola
(and continuity over the integration interval):

  Int( arccos(x) / (x^2 - x * 2^(1/2) + 1), x = 0 .. 1)

Some more and time-consuming consuming experiments reduces troubles
to the following example, where symbolics are disproven by numerics:



Using maplets, how can i get a button on the form to point to another form with a picture. So i am hoping to have 3 forms A1,A2,A3, each have 3 buttons, one to point to the next form, one the previous and one to shutdown. I can create the buttons on the form, the problem is having one point to another, thanks.
