## prime notation setup changed in Maple 2017...

Not sure if this is documented explicitly to Maple users, but normally (prior to Maple 2017) interface(typesetting=extended) was all that was required to output display diff(y(x),x) as y'(x)

With Maple 2017 typesetting=extended is default and one must use with(Typesetting)  Settings(typesetprime=true) in order to output the display of diff(y(x),x) as y'(x).

Perhaps this is well documented somewhere, however I was unable to find the change.

## typesetting in maple plots...

Dear all,

I am trying to put labels for my axis and I use typeset to do that.

The code is:

plot(10^10*x, x = 0 .. 5,labels = ["x", typeset(10^10*Delta*z)],labeldirections = ["horizontal", "vertical"])

The problem is that  I get a label like below:

I mean it is not typed as 10^{10}, but 10000000000!!!

Can anyone help me in changing this to 10^10?

## Labeling symbols in plot ...

Dear Maple users,

In Maple 18, I want to  label y axis as $\hat{\sigma}_y$.

labels = [x, sigma[y]] works fine but I have no idea how to put a hat on sigma[y] .

regards,

## displayprecision and typesetting...

According to the help page:
interface(displayprecision=n)
sets the number of decimal places to be displayed to n.
But this is true only if interface(typesetting=extended).
For interface(typesetting=standard),  n represents the number of decimal places after the decimal point.
Is there any reason for this decision?

restart;
x:=123.456789012345:
interface(displayprecision=4):
interface(typesetting=standard): x;

123.4568
interface(typesetting=extended): x;
123.5

## How can I group certain variables and integers of ...

I'm still quite new to maple and I'm working calculating some dynamic equations.

I want to be able to selectively group certain variables or numbers depending on how I need the equations to be showed, I don't know if that's possible, I´ll explain further.

In typewritting extended format one equation is shown like this:

And maple standard:

The fisrt thing I want is to show the time derivatives in the dot representation, but I also want the 1/2 multiplyting each term of the whole equation like in the maoke standard format.

I also need to group certain variables in some other equations I have and I was wondering if there is a way to do this.

## Typesetting and Maple 2017

by: Maple 2017

While preparing for a recent webinar, I ran across something that didn't behave the same way in Maple 2017 as it did in previous releases. In particular, it was the failure of the over-dot notation for t-derivatives to display with the over-dot. Turns out that this is due to a change in behavior of typesetting that was detailed in the What's New page for Maple 2017, a page I had looked at many times in the last few months, but apparently didn't comprehend fully. The details are below.

Prior to Maple 2017, under the aegis of extended typesetting, the following two lines of code would alert Maple that the over-dot notation for t-derivatives should be used in the output display.

However, this changed in Maple 2017. Extended typesetting is now the default, but these two lines of code are no longer sufficient to induce Maple to display the over-dot in output. Indeed, we would now have

as output. The change is documented in the following paragraph

lifted from the help page

Thus, it now takes the additional command

to induce Maple to display the over-dot notation in output.

I must confess that, even though I pored over the "What's New" pages for Maple 2017, I completely missed the import of this change to typesetting. I stumbled over the issue while preparing for an upcoming webinar, and frantically sent out help calls to the developers back in the building. Fortunately, I was quickly set straight on the matter, but was disappointed in my own reading of all the implications of the typesetting changes in Maple 2017. So perhaps this note will alert other users to the changes, and to the help page wherein one finds those essential bits of information needed to complete the tasks we set for ourselves.

And one more thing - I was cautioned that the "= true" was essential. Without it, the command would act as a query, echoing the present state of the setting, and not making the desired change to the setting.

## Error for the Vector constructor...

The following construction of a simple vector of matrices (just a test example)

Vector(2,(a) -> Matrix(2,2,(b,c) -> m||a||b||c));

works in Maple 17, but not in Maple 2017 where the error message "Error, (in Vector[column]) number of elements on right side must match subselection on left side" is produced. Why that?

Update: If no output is prompted, i.e., if the above line is terminated with colon instead of semicolon, then no error is raised. What?!

## Working with expressions from the Layout palette...

Is there a way to to do the following:

such that Uranium containing the presubsup expression  displays the values contained in A, Z and X instead of just the letters?

(Edit):

I can, however, get it to work using the (A)[b]^(c) expression  from the same palette:

Though I don't understand why it works with one and not the other.

## Prevent rearranging of term...

Dear Maple community,

I've added a label to one of my plot similar to . How can I prevent Maple from rearranging it to ? I think it might have something to do with typeset..?

Thank you very much for your support!

Claudio

## Missing accents...

Dear Maple community,

I just recently purchased Maple 2016.2 Student Edition for my bachelor thesis and ran into an issue I was unable to resolve myself, maybe I didn't find the right English search terms..?

I need to use a small greek gamma with a horizontal bar above it. I know how to use accents, though, in output the bar is missing and this seems to apply for gamma ONLY. Is it just me or is it a bug maybe? I used exactly the same procedure to enter all variables.

The same problem returns when I try to add gamma to a plot label, so I think it's somehow connected.

From what I gathered so far, maybe it's possible to work around by editing some sort of Maple source code..? But I wouldn't know how to do that, so any help would be very much appreciated!

Thanks in advance and best regards from Germany

Claudio

## Is there a way to make Maple output display explic...

Hi there,

I'm new here. My first question:

Is there a way to make Maple output display explicit multiplcations signs in 2D-math?

Example:
When you enter 5*2^x Maple will output . Is there a way to make Maple display the multiplications signs in output in stead just implicit multiplication signs (i.e. whitepaces)? (I would settle for Maple display all multiplication signs in output - not just the ones which are made explicit in the input.)

I searched this site. No luck. I looked into "Typesetting Rule Assistant", but I couldn't find a way to alter the output of multiplication sign (*).

Can you guys help me?

Kind Regards,

Jens

P.S.: I'm a teacher from Denmark. We use Maple before college/university for a lot of pupils. Some less competent pupils have a tendency to overlook the whitespace.

## on using Maple notation for output of some command...

I did not understand fully some of the notation used in 2D when I had the tools->options->Display->Output display->2D. So I thought if I change it to Maple notation. I might see what the symbol actually mean.  But when I did so, the result was even more confusing. Full of typesetting:-mrow commands and hard to read.

Here is the output in 2D

restart;
int(1/( (x-a)*(x-b)),x=-infinity..infinity  );

And here is the output when I switched to Maple output:

I was expecting to see "normal" looking Maple commands, which I can understand. Even the Latex is easier to read than the above mumple jumple code:

Does this mean one should forget about using Maple notation for output from now on? Why is it the output so complicated?

## Notation of diff and ' that is diff(f(x),x) and f'...

#Hello people in Mapleprimes,

#After

restart;interface(typesetting=extended);

diff(f(x),x);

#shows f'(x).

#But,

diff(f(t1),t1);

#shows just df(t1)/dt1, not f'(t).

#Can't I show f'(t1) not df(t1)/dt1?

#Is this a way peculiar to Maple?

#I hope someone could give me some hints.

#Best wishes.

## Typing of accents in code edit region of maple 201...

Please how do I type accents in code edit region of maple 2015.1 (for instance putting "Hat over" on alpha)?

Thank you.

## Subscript in plots...

Is it possible to subscript within a plot?

for example I have

this in principle is what I want but, the N is cursive while is O is not (and it's a bit shifted to the right, not right next to the [2] !???

Also I didnt find the meanings of mi(),mn(),mo(),mfenced()... in the help documentation which I stumbled across while googling.

for example in this case:

what do I need them for since without the mi it doesnt work?!

Is it possible to use latex notation within the plot options for more convenience?

BTW: When plotting a .ps or .eps the plotting device takes over all the features (like the examples above) but when using png instead it just prints the code behind it ( for example the #mover(mi("x"),mi("~")) ) and not would it should lead to
