Hello people in mapleprimes,

I have a question:
What are you doing when you use maple in calculating, for example, your paper,
to avoid missing, for example, variables you use, or for your needs to look back the outcomes you obtained before?
If this is a paper-using work, on considering what to do next, you will read some pieces of papers you wrote and
on which you had calculated and obtained necessary equations. But, with small monitor 13 inch, and with
inconvenience of dealing with things in PC, compared with papers, I feel some stress in using maple in writing a paper.
So, now, I am asking you what kind of methods you has devised to make what you are writing compact and easy,
for you to handle with what you are writing.

I know surely that there are the document block, which enables output or input to not be shown, the workbook,
which is helpful in putting attached worksheets or jpg files together at one workbook, and the distinction of ":" and ";",
which in the case of the former, hides expressions in the outcome.

But, yet, I want to ask you about the ways you use to make it easy to write something.
If you have some, I will be very glad if you show it here.

Best wishes.

I just went from maple 18 to maple 2016. I use maple as a writing program aswell for notes and school.

I realized that maple 2016 does output lines when writing math in a textbox. This is kind of annoying since notes in chemistry is not allways a true mathematical expression. Therefore maple complains. Is there anyway to change this?

I have a worksheet (.mw) file that I want to export using a statement to avoid tedious GUI clicking.

How to export a worksheet (.mw) to Maple Input (.mpl) using a statement in the worksheet, so I can just execute the worksheet, and then the Maple Input (.mpl) file is generated?

How to get directory name of current worksheet file ?

So for example if my current worksheet .mw file is saved at "c:\temp\temp\" I can get the directory part as "c:\temp\temp\".

Given that I use Maple as a student I've had to update to the newest version to keep using Maple.

However I find I have a lot of problems with the new version.

Normally when I write an assignement or work on the given problems I use worksheet mode because it is the best mode to spot any mistakes, and I've grown accostumed to it.

My problem however is when I have to use text.

Normally I've hit CTRL+T to get Maple to recognize that I write text, whereupon I write the given assignment, and press CTRL+J for when I want to go on and write some math. However we do have a little issue about the symbols.

Since I am an engineering student we use a lot of greek letters, and in this case I bring up sigma. In the "old" Maple I pressed F5 to get into math, write the symbol I wanted, pressed F5 again to get back to text and keep writing. In Maple 2016 however I do the same and then at the end of the text paragraph maple spits out lines of blue text with all of the "math" that I have written.

So my question is thus: Can I stop Maple from giving me the blue text, or perhaps is there another way to type symbols without having to go into math?

I've read the help page ?printf for the format codes many times over the years. I think that this is new:

The Z modifier, "%Zm" can be used to generate an alternate equivalent dotm representation that is used in communication with the GUI and in DocumentTools related functionality for the creation of XML content for .mw files.

Could someone show me an example of that?

The problem that I'm asking about here doesn't show in the MaplePrimes display of the worksheet below; you'll need to download the worksheet to see it. The problem is that the last subsection (which is currently empty) overlaps with the second-to-last subsection. It also overlapped when it was not empty. I just want to delete that last subsection, but nothing that I've tried works. This is not the first time that I've had overlapping subsections, but previously I've always been able to fix the problem by closing and re-opening the worksheet. That doesn't work in this case. Important: If any change is made to KB.mpl or NewSLO.mpl then before running this worksheet

1. Restart all open Maple sessions.

2. From the command line, run "cmaple -q < update-archive.mpl".

How do I turn off Worksheet mode in a Maple Document.  I copied a calculation from a Worksheet into my Document, now I have to do calculation in 1-D math.

Any advice would be helpful.

I have worksheet that generates very large matrices and it seems to save all results, so it requires large amount of RAM to load and storage to save it.

There used to be a pop-up prompt not to save the results of the worksheet - to save space, but that no longer occurs.  Can someone help me to switch on that prompt not to save results or otherwise prevent saving results, when I open the spreadsheet.  It maybe that I agreed not to be prompted again, but now I am regretting it!!

I'm currently working on building a Grid Layout for a project, and I'm having trouble coding in the RunWindow and GetFile elements into buttons under the grid layout. I've gone through the overviews and examples for them, but had no luck. I'm using Maple 2016.1 for OS X.

Additionally, the structure of the code is slightly different as to how many of the example worksheets structure their Grid Layout code, since the code originated from a Maplet Builder file. I.e. in the example worksheets they would follow as:

maplet := Maplet('onstartup' = 'Action1', 'reference' = 'Maplet1',
         BoxLayout('background' = "#D6D3CE", 'border' = 'false', 'halign' = 'center', 'inset' = '5', 'reference' = 'BoxLayout1', 'valign' = 'center', 'vertical' = 'false', 'visible' = 'true',
                       BoxColumn( BoxCell('hscroll' = 'never', 'value' = 'Button1', 'vscroll' = 'never'),
         GridLayout('background' = "#D6D3CE", 'border' = 'false','halign'='center','inset'='5', 'reference' = 'GridLayout1', 'valign' = 'center', 'visible' = 'true',
                   GridRow('valign' = 'top', GridCell('height' = '1', 'hscroll' = 'never', 'value' = 'BoxLayout1', 'vscroll' = 'never', 'width' = '1' ))),
         Window('layout'= 'GridLayout1', 'reference' = 'W1', 'resizable' = 'true', 'title' = "Maplet"),
          Action('reference' = 'Action1', RunWindow('window'= 'W1'))

However the structure for the code I am working with has action at the very start of the code, follwed by the the code for the buttons then layouts/window.  E.g. (the code has been shortened)

with (Maplets[Elements]):
maplet :=
Evaluate('function'='plot3d(x^2*cos(y),x = -1 .. 1,y = -2*Pi .. 2*Pi)','target'='Plotter1','waitforresult'='true')),
Button('background'="#D6D3CE",'caption'="Insert Molecular Geometry",'enabled'='true','foreground'="#000000",'onclick'='clickButton1','reference'='Button1','visible'='true'),

If anyone would be able to provide an example of code or some guidance I could follow that would be greatly appreciated!

MAPLE 15 on Windows 10

I have a file on which I can no longer open. This happened after my computer made me long on again after being gone for a little while. Maple was not running when I got back on. This is not unusal and I just clinck on the file and restart.

This time this did not work.

It comes up with a message asking me to select an input mode. Whatever I select even 'Plain text' it just hangs.

I'd send you an image, but I don't see how to do it. The button provide only allows for something with  url and the snip I made is on my desktop.

I need to get thiis worksheet back. I've put a lot of effort into it.

I am a new user with Maple, and was using it as a documentation. But, can't fully see the file created a day before.

The file opens but most of the content is gone and gives the error message.

There were problems during the loading process, Your worksheet may become incomplete

Googled a bit yet couldn't solve it :/

Is there any way to fix this?

Is it possible to share contents between two different Maple worksheets ? Suppose for example, I want to use certain expression number (10) of  Worksheet 1 in worksheet 2, can I call that expression (10) in worksheet 2 ? I am asking this question because copying expressions between different worksheets is not easy task, sometime we unable copy expressions when they are too large. In my case after carrying out very tedious and lengthy calculations Maple stopped responding, now I have an idea that if I import last output of present worksheet in new worksheet may be I could continue my calculations.

I don't know the use to me of having PDF exports having animations requiring huge emails since I don't own website. Yet, I've been fooling with Apple textbook maker app that has movie imort to PDFs. Someday, I'll use google drive links...

So, action item, maybe Maple would like to have a worksheet drop in to this apple textbook app Like movies. I hope it's easy from Apple taunting html5.

In using Maple there are many ways to complete a command on a function. Using shortcuts in the worksheet/document you can enter the command on the line rather than using the drop down menus or clickable math menu.  I would like to see what the shortcut command are for the packages in Maple.  There are so many, I am using the LinearAlgebra package and have seen Dr. Lopez use " ||A||2 to determine the Euclidean Norm of A.  But where does this use get described in the help or examples of other shortcut usage for Maple. I've seen the shortcut commands for Documents in General, but the use of shortcut commands for other packages  don't seem to discuss the usage of such shortcuts.

Is there a document that documents these shortcuts.
