Scott03's picture

Maplesoft has now posted the 11.01 update for users running Maple 11. You can download the update here .

As the website mentions, this update includes improvements in the following areas:

  • Differential Equations
  • Maplets
  • Physics Package updates
  • Plot legends
  • Vector Calculus

Who is entitled to Maple 11.01?

Maple 11.01 is available to all users running Maple 11. If your Help>About Maple 11 dialog from the Standard Interface reads Maple 11.01, then you already have the update and no further action is required. If it has Maple 11 with no version number at all, you should obtain this update. Users who have installed the recently released Vista version of Maple 11 already have this update applied to their installation of Maple 11.

Maple 11.01 and Vista

While it is correct that Maple 11.01 is compatible with Windows Vista, you cannot install Maple 11.00 and update to get to the version that will be compatible. To get the version that runs properly on Windows Vista, you will need to install Maple 11.01 directly. If you had purchased a download copy of Maple 11, then please contact Maplesoft Customer service to get a copy of the download of Maple 11.01. Alternatively, you can go to this website http://www.maplesoft.com/contact/webforms/vista.aspx, and enter your purchase code to get Maple 11.01.

Problem with Windows Vista

Thank you very much !
So, is there any chance for me to run Maple 11 fully compatible with Windows Vista, so I can Save or Open ? I've tried the way posted on this site (Run as Compatibility Mode with Windows 2000) but I doesn't work, and it showed me the 'Stop Working Program' Dialog ! What should I do ?
Thanks a lot !

Maple 11.01 and Vista

Yes you can run Maple 11 fully compatible with Windows Vista. You will need to follow one of the two methods to get Maple 11.01 from Maplesoft. Then uninstall your copy of Maple 11 on your vista machine and re-install with Maple 11.01.

Problem with Windows Vista

So you mean one of them is going to http://www.maplesoft.com/contact/webforms/vista.aspx ?
So what is the other ? Downloading the update version ? But if I don't want to do them (because of some EXTREMLY TERRIBLE reasons :(( ), are there any other ways ?

Scott03's picture

The options

The two options are:

  1. Go to the website http://www.maplesoft.com/contact/webforms/vista.aspx

  2. Contact Maplesoft and request a download link

These two options are important since for Vista there are a lot of changes over and above the normal update that the rest of the operating systems need. As a result the fresh install is needed.

11.01 update on CD?

Is the 11.01 update available on CD?

Could a user who's purchased 11.00 get 11.01 CD, either as a partial update or as the full install?

New version of Maple 11.01 update

I've just received an email from Maplesoft suggesting me to download a new version of Maple 11.01 update since there is a dangerous issue in the previous release for Network and Unix users.
I could reply to the email and to contact Maplesoft customer or support service directly, but, since I think that the questions may be of interest also to other persons, I preferred to post on Mapleprimes.
Here are the questions:
I) What problems could I experience not upgrading? (just to know about; however, I'm already downloading the new release)
II) What is the build id of the corrected version? The build id of my Maple 11.01 copy is 296069, made on 8 june 2007, while I saw on the ftp site that new versions have been uploaded today, so I'm sure that I should upgrade, but this information may be useful to other users.

Thank you very much.

Good work!
Have a nice day!

multiple minor versions, concurrently

I've been playing the update game for so many years that, when a point-release comes out, I prefer to have both it *and* any earlier original.

I find this pretty straightforward on Linux. I suspect that it might be awkward on Windows, if there is registry nonsense to deal with.

Suppose I have Maple 11.00 installed under /usr/local/maple11 , for example. Then along comes 11.01 as an upgrade. I'll copy all of /usr/local/maple11 to, say, /usr/local/maple11.01 with something like a `cp -a` or `cp -dpr`.

Then by hand I'll edit three or so scripts within the /usr/local/maple11.01/bin directory. I'll change the MAPLE variable in those scripts, to agree with this new location.

And only then, will I run the updater. And of course when prompted for the whereabouts of my Maple 11 I'll tell it about the new /usr/local/maple11.01 location.

And to top it all off, I usually either put in symlinks like,
ln -s /usr/local/maple11.01/bin/maple /usr/local/bin/maple11.01
or I add an alias for that to my .bashrc file.

By doing all this, I'll end up with both 11.01 as well as 11.00 available. Just in case.

Now I just need names for the "original" 11.01 and this later modified 11.01.

second 11.01

The email clearly seemed to be aimed at Unix and Network users. Since my 11.01 is a single user profile, I decided to ignore the email.

Maybe I am being too literal. But probably 11.02 is not far in the future.

New version installed

Yesterday I installed the new version of Maple 11.01 (build id 303882 made on july 10 2007): the installer worked without any problem and the new version seems to run perfectly.
However I'd like to know what was the dangerous issue in the previous version...
When a new minor version is released, it would be nice if Maplesoft gave more informations about bugs fixed, improvements and so on, as usually it happens with other software projects.

@Alex Smith:
My 11.01 is a single profile, too, but I think that the update is addressed also to this version for the following reasons:
1) the build id of Maple 11.01 for Linux 32 has changed
2) in the ftp site there's not a "Unix and Network" version, there are only "Linux Single User or Network" versions
3) Maplesoft knows what kind of license/installation you have got, so they would not send you an email to you if not necessary
However, up to now I haven't noticed any difference between the first and the second version of Maple 11.01.

Maple 11.01: different releases - same version

A recent posting by Thomas Richard in a different thread just alerted me to the fact that there are (at least) two different releases of Maple 11.01. The initial distribution of Maple 11.01 is Build 296069 with a date in June 2007. The current release of Maple 11.01 is Build 303882 dated July 10, 2007.

The latter is what is currently available on the Maplesoft download website. The information there makes no mention of the different builds, nor to any details about the changes between the releases.

Earlier posts in this forum do point to the fact that there were multiple distributions of Maple 11.01 but never give any details about the changes. Of particular interest to me: has the saving of user preferences on a network been fixed?

I also found it odd that Maple's automatic update check does not detect the new distribution. Is this because it checked version numbers, not builds?

Why wouldn't the new distribution get a new name, Maple 11.02? Isn't this exactly why this numbering system is used?

Thanks for listening,

Doug

Maple 11.01 versions

The Maple 11.01 kernel has build #296069. There was a later build of the user interface only (#303882). For details, see this thread.

Maple Trouble

I installed Maple 11.00 on my Vista pc and noticed the Save/Open options werent working along with the file menu. I was advised to update to maple 11.01 which i did and there was no effect.

I downloaded this file "http://www.maplesoft.com/contact/webforms/vista.aspx" and installed it without uninstalling the previous version. When I try to uninstall Maple 11 i gett an error message saying "An error occured while uninstalling"

So i cannot uninstall it. Someone suggested to delete the Folder in the program files and erase all registry entries, which i did. When i try to install the downloaded version, i get an error message saying "A previous version of Maple 11 was detected, Please uninstall as known problems will occur"...and sadly i cannot uninstall as the program data is already deleted.

I am totally stuck and i have coursework to do. Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Technical Support

This error would come up if there is a registry entry that wasn't deleted. I would suggest contacting Maplesoft Technical Support to get guidance on the registry entries to delete.
