Hello All,
In Document Mode, I entered the following 2 lines and observed 2 different behaviors from Maple 10,
sin(4.5)=-.9775301177 I can NOT enter anything after ..177, the output. Here = is ctrl+=.
sin(x)=sin(x) I CAN enter text or 2D Math after the 2nd sin(x) which is ouput. Again = is ctrl+=
The behavior of the 2nd line is what I would expect. But why is there the difference? How can I enter something in the 1st line after the output?
Thanks.
Regards,
Chin Li
Question
In the first step, do you have a a cursor surrounded by a dotted box? Where is the cursor when you are trying to enter your text? When I tried your step1 I got a "Document Block" after the answer which allows me to enter math. Also, what is the character style when you are trying to enter your text? You can find the character style in the drop down to the left of the font selection.

Step 1, Cursor is straight flashing veritcal line
Hi Scott,
I did not see a cursor surrounded by a dotted box. When I tried to enter text, the cursor is right after the last digit 7, on the same line as the output. When you say you got a "Document Block", is that "Block" on the next line or on the same line as the output line. I am trying to enter after the anwser in the same line as the output.
On a brand new Document Mode sheet, before I enter anything the cursor is a slanted blinking veritcal line. After I entered sin(4.5) and ctrl+=, the output are the blue digits -.9775301777. The cursor is to the right of the last 7 and its character style is "Math" and "C 2D Output". Also if I hit F5, it does not switch to "Text" and "C Text". And I can not enter anything neither Math nor Text to the right of the output on the same line.
However the situation is different if enter sin(x) and ctrl+=. There I can enter either Math or Text right after the output on the same line.

Clarification
First are you in Maple 10 as Mario is guessing or Maple 11?
If your current style is saying "C 2D Output" then your cursor is currently in a region that containing 2D output from a math expression. You will not be able to write anything in this block. You will need to move out of this section (either with your cursor keys or with your mouse). If the style is either "C 2D Input", "C Maple Input", or "C Text" then you will be able to enter input.
The dotted box outline is a new feature for Maple 11 that will show up in Document mode if you have 2D (Math) Input selected. It will show what will be executed at the same time when the Enter key is pressed.

I am using Maple 10. The
I am using Maple 10.
The problem is that I can't get out of the block. The cursor will not go any further to the right. I used arrow, space bar, or mouse. And also in combinations with F5.
However the 2nd line, sin(x), will work.
I suspect this is a bug.
Thank you for the answers and suggestions.

Question about maple 10
I did your first step in Maple 10. After the output, I can write math or text (if I click F5). Same thing for the second step.
Sorry

Hi Mario, Do you
Hi Mario,
Do you have a check mark at the "Inline Document Output" line in the pull-down menu View? Mine does.

Documents
As many seasoned users of Maple have pointed out, it is illogical to use Document mode.
Document mode should be avoided like head lice and the plague.
It will be like DOS vs. Windows.
Your comment is well heard.
But I think Document Mode vs. Worksheet Mode would be analogus to the situation of Windows vs. DOS. Document will have more users than Worksheet down the road.

Inline Document Output
No I do not have the "inline document ouput" check.
About the document mode, before Maple 11 was release, I was using classic mode. But with Maple 11, I use document mode and everything is OK. Maplesoft is saying that the point and click is a great interface for the new user of Maple. I don't want to start a debate here but I would be very interested to listen to your reasons trough my email.
Cheers
