Hello! I'm trying to install Maple 10 on my computer running Windows Vista Business N. However, the installation stalls at the point showing "Please wait, Maple 10 is being configured for your system. This may take a moment..." Nothing is happening after that. How can I install the software?
Vista probably not supported yet
Vista is not listed as an official platform, so I would not be surprised it Maple did not "quite" work on it.
No luck
Official platform or not, Vista is a Windows version, so software designed for Windows should be able to install. If not, the installer is b0rken.
I already tried the XP compatibility mode, doesn't work either (same problem). Any further suggestions?
Run with administrator in
Run with administrator in the XP compatibility mode, and wait
for a long time.
I have installed perfactly in this way.
Official platform or not?
No. Guess why there is the XP SP2 compatibility mode mentioned by others. Remember, even when SP2 appeared for XP, lots of applications stopped working.
In my experience, every major new release of an OS (be it Windows or Linux) breaks compatibility with some applications.
That's why the distinction between officially supported platforms and others is correct. In case of unsupported ones, you are basically on your own.
you should run install
you should run install program in compatible mode (winxp sp2), and during installation,
some checkbox will dissapare. But after installation, maple 10 can run perfactly in vista.
good luck
graphics mode?
I'm using Maple 10 through my school with a network installer that asks for some sort of school key server to restrict access (I think it's very similar to the one that is being described here, though). I noticed that with Aero on, the installer was forcing the interface to switch to basic mode, and the windows seemed to be glitched up (buttons didn't show up and such). I went to the Control Panel, turned the display theme to Classic (the one that looks like Windows 2000), and after setting the compatibility mode to XP SP2 and running as an admin, installed it successfully.
Since this is a Vista install, and computers with Vista usually have a lot of RAM, this might be helpful after you successfully install: http://www.maplesoft.com/support/faqs/Maple10/Installation/2.aspx
Still Waiting...
I have tried the Win XP SP 2 compatibility, how long am I supposed to be waiting?
Classic View
Classic View is the best! Switch from Windows Vista Basic (or Aero) to Classic and Maple installs immediately. Thanks for the tip! I was getting worried I would be stranded without Maple.
Another solution that works.
On http://www.iexbeta.com/wiki/index.php/Windows_Vista_RC_1_Software_Compatibility_List I read another solution for me (Vista Ultimate, 32 bit), that worked fine.
Run it in compatible mode with windows 2000 and run it in administrator. This requires no waiting other than the usual waiting times the installer requires on other platforms.
Every step you should do:
-Be sure you're logged in as an administrator on your windows version.
-Locate the setupfile. (in my case, the name is InstallMaple10.exe)
-Rightclick on it.
-Choose 'properties', at the bottom.
-Select the Tab called compatibility by leftclicking on it one time.
-Make the uppercheckbox active by clicking once. Choose from the scrolldown menu the option Windows 2000.
-Activate the checkbox at the bottom (run as administrator).
When done correctly, your window may look like this: click here to see the image
-Left-click on Apply
-Left-click on OK
The properties window closes now.
-Rightclick on the install application again, just like the third step.
-Choose the second option: Run as administrator.
-Wait for a few seconds. A security popup of windows will show itself. Press on continue.
The installer will run now perfectly the way it should. By the activation it states somewhere you're windows 2000. Ignore this line: you are in Vista but the compatibility mode fools the installer, that is why it works ;-)
After the installation, Maple 10 works fine over here.
I see no reason why it shouldn't work at any other version of windows Vista. Hopefully I've saved a lot of time for some of you.
Yours,
Mart
PS. I might have given false translations of Vista 'cause I'm on the Dutch version of Vista.
I love math.

Installing Maple 10 with Vista
After trying numerous times to install Maple 10 with the compatibility setting for Windows XP, SP2, I finally saw Mart's suggestion (above) and followed it to the letter. I had it installed in less than five minutes! However, when I tried to run Maple 10 under the Windows 2000 setting, I got a message that it was "looking for the kernal," which it never found! So I tried running the program under Windows XP, SP2 compatibility mode and it works fine. Go figure! Anyway, install using Windows 2000 mode (as Administrator) and run the program under Windows XP mode (as Administrator). It worked for me! Thanks, Mart!
