I received my Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania in 1998 and I have been teaching since then at SUNY Oneonta for 1 year, at Shepherd University for 5 years, at Tennessee Tech for 2 years, at Lane College for 1 year, and this year I taught at the University of Massachusetts Lowell. My research interests include Representation Theory and Combinatorics.

Stephanie.

You are very welcome. I didn't mean to criticize you. It's just one of this site's longstanding problem - the lack of visible attention from Maplesoft. The threads that I listed, were started after this blog post. There are much more older posts in the Product Suggestions and Maple Commons, directly addressed to Maplesoft developers, which are unanswered and uncommented. In many cases simple "Thank you. We added this bug to our bug database and working on resolving the problem" would be enough. The community answered and commented to many posts, but the lack of Maplesoft's visible attention makes it look like the bugs and other product suggestions are ignored.

I didn't realize that Maplesoft is not a part of Maple community.

Alec

Well, it may be good enough for you, but it is not good enough for me and several other users with number of points greater than yours. If there is going to be a poll on that (or other editing related) topic, it would be natural to weight the votes proportionally number of points, for obvious reasons.

Alec

No visible changes thus far.

In particular, the posts in the Product Suggestions and Maple Commons (what is it, by the way?) general technical discussions still stay unanswered and even uncommented by Maplesoft people, as well as many posts in other forums.

Here is just a short list of recent threads requiring some visible attention from Maplesoft,

  1. Enter fraction
  2. What is the best value of
  3. Is it difficult
  4. FromMma
  5. It seems
  6. Solving
  7. 10 minites to evaluate an expression
  8. MultiSeries and Lambert W
  9. Order of gridlines in plots
  10. Simplification of complex powers
  11. The process simplify

Maple notation would lessen a lot of things. Pressing keys is not one of them though.

No difference. What do you mean by a box?

The semicolon is important in Classic Maple, command line Maple and Standard Maple with input in Maple notation. It may be not that important in Standard Maple with 2D-input.

Here is another problem with Units[Natural], for Thomas Unger's code:

with(Units[Natural]):
L := [[1, 3], [2, 1], [3, 5], [4, 3], [5, 1], [6, 6]];

        L := [[1, 3], [2, 1], [3, 5], [4, 3], [5, 1], [6, 6]]

G := seq(op(2, op(n, L)), n = 1 .. nops(L));

                     G := %1, %1, %1, %1, %1, %1

          %1 := [[1, 3], [2, 1], [3, 5], [4, 3], [5, 1], [6, 6]]

What I was saying is that everything that could be done with Flash, can also be done with Silverlight. Will is quite proficient with C#, so it wouldn't be a big problem for him to do the same things in Silverlight (which is, in general, just adding some C# to Javascript). Why use ActionScript when C# can do the same or better, with much better prospects in the future? Especially working in the Visual Studio (and SharePoint?) environment.

In general, Maplesoft seems to be addicted and following outdated (and sometimes even expired) technologies. In particular, Standard Maple is implemented in Java, which was already quite obsolete at that time when it was done (in Maple 9), not even talking about nowadays. 5-6 more years and Java won't exist anymore (except, maybe, in some server area, but definitely not on the desktop.)

5-7 years ago Flash was good. Now - Silverlight beats it (and Flex) in all aspects. 3-4 more years and Flash will be history.

Alec

I should say that I like one Flash game, Falling Girl.

Alec

Yes.

I still own the domain, but couldn't find any use of it.
