I find it quite funny, that M$ introduces just that format as standard for Office application (Word, Excel), while they consider it as harmfull (at the server side) and do not even offer the possiblity to save such as attachment (as any reasonable software would do) - but at the same time it is trivial to circumvent all that through zipping files (which would never outwit protection SW at the server) ...

Then I could imagine that it avoids updating the the screen, since processing for the layout might become too expensive (ok, I almost never use Maple for document processing ...)

yes, thx - a bug anyway, without assumptions the result must not be 0 ...

Maple does it (almost) correctly using 'inttrans', if one writes
the integral as 2*Pi*invfourier( g(u),u,k ), g:= u -> 1/(u^2+1/4).

It answers in terms of Heaviside(+-k), so it implicitely assumes
here that the k is a Real (and I define Heaviside(0) = 1/2).

for me that works sa expected, both in Classic or Standard interface, printing while looping

`Classic Worksheet Interface, Maple 12.00, Windows, Apr 10 2008 Build ID 347164`
Standard Worksheet Interface, Maple 12.0, Windows XP, April 10 2008 Build ID 347164

on Win XP SP2

is there really no other reliable way to clean up everything then to close and restart the complete sheet?

normal( S+1/x ) is a rational function of degree [3,4] where the
denominator B is as above. You can enforce a representation as
hypergeom by 1/t; convert(%,hypergeom, include=all); eval(%,t=B);

Then by multiplying with the numerator you get a representation
for S+1/x as polynom*hypergeom.

The hypergeom converges for abs(1-t) < 1 and gives your a series,
and beyond you have to use some of the linear transforms given in
Abramowitz&Stegun.

May be some re-scaling makes it a bit better, but the problem with
the poles will remain.

it says: for all the 4 roots alpha of the denominator you have to sum up (after substracting 1/x), so it writes your S as -1/x + A/B1 + A/B2, where A is your numerator (of degree 4) and B1,B2 are quadrics with complex roots only (coming from a partial fraction or as displayed: it uses A/b1+A/b2+a/b3+A/b4). Note that your S is rational (of degree = [4,5]) and thus has no global series due to singularities

acer, fine too hear that :-)

Well, if it would not be a kind of Consumer Software then a kind of user board or managed community is one way for critical and refreshing input and for dialog as some companies do (which of course does not result in realizing gathered suggestions).

May be this forum is/was found with such intention, at least partially I would guess. You are right it implicitely can serve as such - but not everything will be written out here, it costs time to write (at least if it should have some content).

Anyway: I do not want to cancel any nomination from my list (if I did something that I actually hate then I hate it even more to correct it hehehe).

what is the model you want to fit the data against? for me it is too hairy to fiddle that from the sheet ...
