Yesterday I installed the new version of Maple 11.01 (build id 303882 made on july 10 2007): the installer worked without any problem and the new version seems to run perfectly. However I'd like to know what was the dangerous issue in the previous version... When a new minor version is released, it would be nice if Maplesoft gave more informations about bugs fixed, improvements and so on, as usually it happens with other software projects. @Alex Smith: My 11.01 is a single profile, too, but I think that the update is addressed also to this version for the following reasons: 1) the build id of Maple 11.01 for Linux 32 has changed 2) in the ftp site there's not a "Unix and Network" version, there are only "Linux Single User or Network" versions 3) Maplesoft knows what kind of license/installation you have got, so they would not send you an email to you if not necessary However, up to now I haven't noticed any difference between the first and the second version of Maple 11.01.
I've just received an email from Maplesoft suggesting me to download a new version of Maple 11.01 update since there is a dangerous issue in the previous release for Network and Unix users. I could reply to the email and to contact Maplesoft customer or support service directly, but, since I think that the questions may be of interest also to other persons, I preferred to post on Mapleprimes. Here are the questions: I) What problems could I experience not upgrading? (just to know about; however, I'm already downloading the new release) II) What is the build id of the corrected version? The build id of my Maple 11.01 copy is 296069, made on 8 june 2007, while I saw on the ftp site that new versions have been uploaded today, so I'm sure that I should upgrade, but this information may be useful to other users. Thank you very much. Good work! Have a nice day!
I think that Maple is also an excellent tool for doing "experiments" with mathematics.
I downloaded http://archives.math.utk.edu/software/msdos/calculus/maplev/maplev.zip and I tried it using qemu+kqemu+freedos: it worked fine, except for 3d plots which looked ugly...
I put on my tiny web space my config files: client.conf cupsd.conf printers.conf I don't know if they may be useful to you...
Here is my printer section of ~/maple/11/maplerc... [Printer] PlotPrintQuality=0 Name= I'm running cupsd 1.1.23 + gimp-print 4.2.7 on Slackware 11. I configured cupsd, but I didn't anything to configure Maple to use the printer, it worked "out of the box"...
Hello! I'm using Maple 11 on linux with cups, too. I tried to print two pages and it worked perfectly, then I killed cupsd and I tried again, but this time I saw your error message, so I suppose that your printing server (cupsd) is not running...
Well, if I remember well there's another difference: in the cd there are versions of Maple for different OSs (e.g. Linux, Windows, Linux 64 bit and so on), while in the downloadable version you have to choose one OS (even if writing an e-mail to Maplesoft you can obtain the link to download the version for another OS since the license permits you to have Maple installed on two different pcs provided you don't run the two copies of Maple at the same time). Tom, am I right? (License may have changed or I may have misunderstood...) I choosed the downloadable version, so now I hope to receive the link for downloading in a few days, I don't know if actually you can download Maple 11 immediately, probably there's a queue to avoid bandwidth problems... However, to download remains probably the quickest way to buy Maple, particularly if you don't live in North America (like me)...
I read http://www.maplesoft.com/support/downloads/m10_06update.aspx and I understood that, unless you are an EMP customer, you should use directly the 10.06 update; if you have got an EMP then you should upgrade to Maple 10.05 before using the 10.06 update ... However, wait for another post of someone else more expert than me...
Very interesting... I already downloaded the tar.gz file, this evening or tomorrow I'll try your module. I saw the screenshots and it looks a good and useful work. Congratulations. Thank you very much. Gabriele

I think that it is better that the newsgroup and mapleprimes remain separeted... Maplesoft offers this "official" forum, the users are free to build others... For Maplesoft it would be an additional work to check all the posts in the newsgroup, for some users it would seem a restriction of their freedom if Maplesoft controlled their posts in a site owned by google, not by Maplesoft... And what would happen if another newsgroup were created in the world, followed by another one and so on? I don't think that the purpose of mapleprimes forum is to replace the newsgroup, but I think that it is simply to offer to the users a place where the correctness of the answers is checked by the authors of the software... Even if I saw that moderators in this forum allow some criticisms, probably in the newsgroup there is more freedom to criticize the software or the company or to make comparisons between Maple and other similar software like Mathematica (for example). However, I agree that this is a technical forum, so questions and critics are mainly related on how to solve mathematical problems with Maple and in mathematics most of the times it is quite easy to decide who is right... Nevertheless, since it does not take a lot of time to look in two or three sites and to search on the web, I don't feel the need to have one place where to discuss and to reach all that it is related with Maple... Cheers, G.I.
Wonderful: this new package makes Maple a complete tool for all my computational needs. I'll upgrade as soon as Maple 11 will be available. Thank you for your kind reply and congratulations for your good work. Gabriele Inghirami
Dear Doctor Cheb-Terrab, could you tell me more about new Physics package capabilities? Beyond the implementation of Kronecker's delta, what are the most significant and useful features of that package? Many thanks in advance. Regards. G.Inghirami
Thank you for your interest, Leo. Unfortunately, I'm not able to read Russian... I didn't really need a tool to manipulate bra and kets, so I didn't try to code myself neither I kept on searching how to accomplish this task... However I read that in Maple 11 there will be a Physics package that maybe could fit...
