Thank you Carl. You suggestion for putting L as [L] works great. You also suggested to use indets instead of coeffs for extracting unevaluated. I am actually extracting both coefficients and variables from a polynomial. The variables can be higher order, like 2*x^3*y + 5x^2*y^2 - 6*x*y^3. coeffs extracted higher order correctly. Do you think I should still change it to indets?
