Dion: How do you install the libstdc++5 package on 9.10?  apt-get complains that it needs gcc-3.3-base and that seems to be obsolete.

(Maybe it's time to buy a new version of Maple instead of wasting so much time trying to get the old ones to work on new platforms)

Same problem here.  Followed the suggestion by Dion.  In YaST, I had libstdc++43 installed but not libstdc++33, so I clicked on it to be installed, and voila! xmaple works.
