@tomleslie Here's what I don't get though: with Maple's initial function, the one without initialvalues, we get f(1.8)=1084. You say the second version is only more natural to humans, but this value, as an example, is further from the nearest point than the solution with a longer phase would produce, so isn't it also objectively less close to the source data?
