okay, i have a good example to the contrary.

i am currently trying to figure out the same thing as the original poster.  the method you suggest is fine IF maple is capable of exporting whatever has been displayed inline to a GIF file.  but as my current worksheet stands, the plot -- i suppose -- is too intensive and 2 things amazingly happen (1) maple is unable to export to a viable file and instead exports to a file with size 0KB and (2) saving the plot in the worksheet causes maple to exhibit the downright frightening behavior of not being able to save ANY of the worksheet past the intensive plot, thereby no only losing the plot/animation but ALSO losing all of  the maple code itself!

on the other hand, using plotsetup to output to a GIF file seems to work well in this case, producing the animation and not causing a loss of information in the process of saving the intensive plots in the worksheet (still trying to understand what might cause this destruction to the worksheet and how to circumvent it).

so in this case it would be nice to be able to control every aspect of the output via PLOTSETUP since inline display and export is not a viable option.  if anyone has any ideas how to do it, or if it's possible to change it more simply after the fact, it would be greatly appreciated.
