Why no parentheses around "%" are needed here

cos^2 + sin^2 = 1;
%(x);
                           2      2
                        cos  + sin  = 1

                           2         2
                     cos(x)  + sin(x)  = 1

as they are required here (to group terms)

(cos^2 + sin^2 = 1)(x);
                           2         2
                     cos(x)  + sin(x)  = 1

Is it because % (?ditto) is an operator or because of an evaluation rule?

I know the opposite: Maple treats (sin)(x) the same as sin(x), i.e. removes the parentheses.
I also know that Maple has special evaluation rules for procedures (see ?last_name_eval) but the
"operator expression" cos^2 + sin^2 = 1 inside the parentheses is of type equation and not of type function/procedure.

I assume that % reevaluates a previously computed result stored in the kernel and not in the user interface but maybe I am wrong here. If equation labels are used instead of %, also no parentheses are needed, but in this case the equation label refers to output stored at the level of the user interface.

I could not identify a menu item in the ribbon interface under "Insert" (where it was with the former interface).

Let B and D be natural numbers. Prove that in the rational numbers there exist solutions (x;y) of the equation x^3-y^3=B^3+D^3 and the equation x^3-y^3=B^3-D^3, and find the solution formula and example solutions.

This problem becomes interesting when one searches for positive rational solutions x=x(B,D) and y=y(B,D).

I see my Maple has updated to 2026.2 What has been inproved in this release?

At a birthday party, the jubilarian in question observes:
If I substitute my current age for D in Pell X² – D Y² = 1, then X becomes my age next year, and Y is the age of my grandchild. Then how old we are?

I crated this "defs.mpl" File:
assume(a>0,b>=a,b>d,L>b,u>0,u<L):
def4 := ['L' = 2865, 'a' = 315, 'b' = 315, 'd' = 210, 'h' = 140]:
def5 := ['L' = 2865, 'a' = 315, 'b' = 315, 'd' = 280, 'h' = 140]:

clear:=proc()
 unassign('L',' a',' b',' d',' h');
 assume(a>0,b>=a,b>d,L>b,u>0,u<L);
 is(b>0);
end proc:

reassign:=proc(defs)
 clear();
 assume(a>0,b>=a,b>d,L>b,u>0,u<L);
 assign(defs);
 defs;
end proc:

Then it produced this Output:

> read "defs.mpl"
> assign(def4);
> def4;
          [2865 = 2865, 315 = 315, 315 = 315, 210 = 210, 140 = 140]

> clear();
                                     true

> def4;
                [L = 2865, a = 315, b = 315, d = 210, h = 140]

> reassign(def5);
                [L = 2865, a = 315, b = 315, d = 280, h = 140]

> def5;
               [L = 2865, a = 315, b = 315, d = 280, 140 = 140]

> def4;
               [L = 2865, a = 315, b = 315, d = 210, 140 = 140]

Why is here 'h' replaced by its value, while the other variable names are printed as expected.

In my Settings I specified that assumed variables shall not have an annotation.

What are the best techniques for performing introspection in Maple Documents?

I would like to use the content within a Maple Document (.mw) as input to calculations and operations within the same document. I am aware of the DocumentTools Package, but it seems that needs to open a copy of the current document to perform operations and is dependent on the current document being saved to disk rather than working with what is already in memory. What techniques are available to work with the document's data model and content within the document, such section headings, section structure, and paragraph text content - as opposed to just the variables that have been defined?

reordering an expression by separating rational and radical terms ?

Any suggestions for Electronic Laboratory Notebook (ELN) systems that work well with Maple Documents?

I find Maple Documents (.mw) useful for scientific work and data analysis. I frequently organize my documents in the style of a laboratory notebook experiment. The collapsible section heading and execution repeatability are key capabilities. Managing a collection of Maple Documents over time via file systems and revision controls systems (e.g., Git) is adequate, however it seems the workflow support and compliance capabilities of an ELN would be useful as well. A typical tension in the class of ELN systems is that many of them are prescriptive about the editor, requiring or strongly encouraging something like a web-based WYSIWYG editor that lacks the literate programming capabilities of Maple. If anyone has had a good experience taking advantage of ELN capabilities without them interfering with a Maple-document centric authoring workflow, please let me know.

hello again,

what about pure anonymous functions in Maple ?

example:

(#1+#2^3)(2,3) = 2+3^3= 29

# is reserved

?

thank you :)

Hello Ladies and Gents,

Two more questions and I will be finished to bother you :)

What are the equivalent command for FromCharactersCode and ToCharactersCode ?

Is there a equivalent of Chop for Maple.

The first question answer might hide in some package.

Voilà.

I *shall* stop to ask questions between "math"ematica and Maple

From now on I will stick to Maple !

Thanks and kind regards to all of you.

Error, (in LinearAlgebra:-Modular:-IntegerLinearSolve) invalid arguments to iratrecon

I ran a procedure that uses only `solve/linear`. The above error was returned. Any ideas how to prevent it or why it happened?

How does `solve/linear` reach LinearAlgebra:-Modular:-IntegerLinearSolve?

Hello,

I already ask these questions but can't find the answers :

1) about Maple floats (i.e the equivalent command

for $MaxNumber,$MinNumber, etc)

2) how to get the list of all Packages with their commands

3) the list of all commands of Maple

(for example 'transpose' appears in ...12 packages, but I only know in mathematics only one

'transpose' , i.e the transpose of a matrix)

Thank you very much and all the best,

Jean-Michel

Does Maple natively work while using a VPN? If not, where do I go to learn how to configure it so it will work using a VPN? In Maple 2025 and Maple 2026, Maple will soft-lock when when attempting to execute any worksheet or attempting to read any help section when using a VPN under the default configuration configuration of Maple.
