Any chance you can explain the problem and solution anyway, thereby letting others searching for some help have some reference? =) Glad you found the answer! (Hey, I just got me a Maple leaf!!)

Yes it is. In fact I just found that article, and came here to post a link for reference. Thanks!
The problem has been found: I had the following lines: Listen localhost:631 (Equivalent to your Port 631 line as near as I can tell) Listen /var/run/cups/cups.sock The second line was messing everything up. Commenting it out fixed the problem. Now I get to wonder what it was for in the first place...
That worked--I used your cupsd.conf and restarted the daemon, and Maple now recognizes the printers. Now I just need to figure out what the difference is between yours and mine so I can correct it. I'll be sure to post what makes the difference here for future reference for anyone else who runs into this problem. Thanks for the help!
I still can't get printing to work, and it's really frustrating. I've tried downgrading to the version of cups mentioned, with no change. gimp-print appears to just be nicer printer drivers than what comes with cups, so that doesn't help either. I have yet to hear back from Maplesoft support. I have no clue what else would need to be changed to get maple talking to cups, but I need an answer soon. Doesn't do me much good if I can't turn in my homework. =)
I don't have gimp-print installed, maybe I'll try putting that on. If that doesn't work, could you post or email me your cups configuration so I can compare? Thanks for the help!
http://www.maplesoft.com/support/faqs/Maple9/Installation/2.aspx this link suggests to me that maple should work fine with cups. Is there something I need to do in the Maple configuration that I'm not aware of? Also, looking in my ~/maple/11/maplerc, I see the following section of code: [Printer] ImageableY=54.0 PlotPrintQuality=0 PaperWidth=612.0 PaperHeight=792.0 ImageableX=54.0 ImageableHeight=684.0 Name= ImageableWidth=504.0 Orientation=portrait the fact that there's nothing in Name bothers me a bit. What does yours look like?
Don't know if it's a typo in the post or not, but in your original message your equation is in t, while your collect is in x. Just a thought. Glad you got it figured out, though.

I even restarted the cupsd, and it still gives me that error. I should mention I have the student version, but I can't imagine that would behave any differently. Firefox finds the printer service just fine. Do you have lpr set up in addition, or are you only using cups? (Someone suggested that perhaps Maple doesn't behave with cups, and I need lprd running)
