Question: Why would using sin(x+a+b) produce complex terms but expand (sin(x+a+b)) does not?

 

I attach the relevant file but in essence I have a function which includes a term sin(x+a+b) where x is the variable and ‘a’ and ‘b’ are constants, symbolic integration and solving then follow.

If I use sin(x+a+b) in my function then the output produces complex terms.  I expect real terms.


If I use expand (sin(x+a+b)) in my function then the output produces only real terms and the output is physically as expected.

Why would this happen?
