When I replace the equation with a name that points to it, this returns FAIL instead.
Any ideas why?

deter := sin(a*Pi)*sqrt(4*a^2+3)*cos(sqrt(4*a^2+3)*Pi)+sin(sqrt(4*a^2+3)*Pi)*a*cos(a*Pi);

Hi, thanks for the help.

That link just provides the same instructions as in the readme for DirectSearch. I can't find any lib directory in the application folder for Maple, and that command doesn't accept the location of the folder I specified - "\ unexpected".

In addition, I can't seem to install the DirectSearch Package on Mac OSX mountain lion. There is no 'lib' directory and the command listed in the readme doesn't work on Maple 16.

Sorry, I should have been more specific. The first ten roots with a>0.

Don't worry about it, thanks for your help. I will keep looking for a work around and will post it here if I find one.
