When you are ready to connect your new BMW Digital Key make sure that your smartphone is fully charged and in the same space as your vehicle. Place your iPhone in the tray of your smartphone and then select 'Start Pairing' on the screen of your vehicle's BMW Connected app. Once your phone and vehicle are paired you can take your iPhone from the tray.
Once you're ready to add other users, simply log into your BMW Connected account and select 'Add New Digital Key'. You'll be required to provide your contact information and the VIN of the car you'd like to grant access to. You'll then be given a code to enter on your mobile device. After the code is entered, your phone will show the BMW key icon within the Apple Wallet app.

Battery Replacement
If the batteries in your BMW fob are getting worn out, you may wonder, "Can I change the battery on the BMW key fob?". The answer is dependent on the model you have. For instance, older diamond-shaped BMW key fobs were not designed to have the batteries replaced. They are glued to the backplate, so trying to pry off the backplate is likely to cause some damage to the fob. However, the latest fobs can get their batteries replaced by simply opening the fob and swapping out the CR2450 or CR2032 battery.
You can remove the valet keys from the most well-known smart key models (1 3, 5, 7, and X) by pressing a small tab. Then you can open the access port with an screwdriver. This should reveal a small groove in the opening. Use the tool to push in the small tab and pull off the valet key to reveal the CR2032 battery inside. Replace the old battery with a brand new one and then put the cover back on.
If you own a Display Key with a touchscreen, you will need to take a slightly different approach. While the Display Key is very water-resistant, it's not as water-proof as an ordinary key fob, and you will need to be careful about exposure to excessive moisture. It can withstand even a trip through the washing machine but it's best to treat it like an iPhone. Don't be concerned about rain as long as it stays clear of water.
