The city of Evansville Police Department is getting a full-time dog in its K-9 unit. The new unit will feature a vehicle, a dog, and a handler. The pet is a 1 1/2-year-old Yellow Labrador named Lexus. The dog is in her second week of training and should be ready for the fall semester. The community helped raise the funds to get the dog and vehicle. Kenny Kent donated the vehicle and Rent and Roll provided the wheels and rims. The Vanderburgh County Prosecutor's Office supplied the handler and trainer. Lexus is in training for basic obedience and narcotic detection. DOGE LEXUS is a valuable asset to a police department. It helps reduce crime and provides a visible presence for the department. Lexus is a popular luxury brand with many vehicles suitable for pets and their owners. The brand’s SUV lineup includes the RX L, GX, and LX, which all offer room for three rows of seating and increased cargo space. The brand also offers two trim levels for the IS sedan with rear-wheel drive and a back-seat that can fold flat to make room for a pet. The 2024 Lexus GX is one of our favorite midsize luxury SUVs because of its truck-like architecture and twin-turbo V6 that makes it a powerful off-roader. This year, a revamped interior and under-the-skin upgrades enhance the comfort of this seven-passenger beast. The majority opinion deviates significantly from and misapplies the abuse of discretion standard in remanding this case for an evidentiary hearing on an issue that was only obliquely referenced by Lexus’s counsel during the district court’s initial hearing. Further, the issue of duress is irrelevant to Keller’s standing because it is illegal for a person to transfer ownership of a vicious animal to another party after it has been determined to be such. For these reasons, I respectfully dissent.
