Thank you very much for your response.
I will try and explain myself a bit better. I originally had to solve an integral which left me something plus a constant of integration. Since I used the method of characteristics to solve the integral I was able to write this constant as a function of y^2-k^2*x^2 (which was equal to a constant through the method of characteristics). So this constant appears in my equation as some function h of (y^2-k^2*x^2).
I perform a few operations on the answer to the integral, such as taking the curl, and my aim is to end up with an equation that cancels out to 0. I would like maple to calculate what function h will allow this to happen, if any.
I am not sure if this is the same as h being a function of one variable and being evaluated at y^2-k^2*x^2?
I have tried running through my equation with a function w(x,y) rather than the form I want h(y^2-k^2*x^2) but maple seems to give up on it when I use pdsolve (not sure if it can't be solved or if it runs out of memory).
Thank you again for your help.
