## Announcing Maple Flow 2023

by: Maple Flow

We've just launched Maple Flow 2023!

The new release offers many enhancements that help you calculate and write reports faster, resulting in polished technical documents. Let me describe a few of my favorite new features below.

You can now change the units of results inline in the canvas, without taking your hands off the keyboard. You can still use the Context Panel, but the new method is faster and enhances the fluid workflow that Flow exemplifies.

You can also enter a partial unit inline; Flow will automatically insert more units to dimensionally balance the system.

This is useful when results are returned in base dimensions (like time, length and mass) but you want to rescale to higher-level derived units. For an energy analysis, for example, you might guess that the result should contain units of Joules, plus some other units, but you don't know what those other units are; now, you can request that the result contains Joules, and Flow fills the rest in automatically.

The new Variables Palette lists all the user-defined variables and functions known to Flow at the point of the cursor. If you move your grid cursor up or down, the variables palette intelligently removes or adds entries.

You can now import an image by simply dragging it from a file explorer into the canvas.

This is one of those small quality-of-life enhancement that makes Flow a pleasure to use.

You can now quickly align containers to create ordered, uncluttered groups.

We've packed a lot more into the new release - head on over here for a complete rundown. And if you're tempted, you can get a trial here.

We have a lot more in the pipeline - the next 12 months will be very exciting. Let me know what you think!

## Invalid derivative - HJB...

I have a function (Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman, HJB)

H:=(y,u,t)->y^(2)(t)+u^(2)(t)+1/(2)(x(t))^(4) +(∂)/(∂ x)(V(t))*u(t)

When I try to do

diff(H(y, u,t), u(t))

I get an invalid derivative error. Even if I remove the partial derivative, I still get the error. Does anyone know of to fix this?

Thanks

## How do I Combine functions in Maple Flow...

How do I combine a number of functions into a composite one?

For example

Combined into a final composite function
such that the function R evaluates x and y as functions themselves.

Many times this sort of function definition makes it easier for the human.

## Maple flow minor improvement

Maple Flow 2022

MapleFlow is showing the exact same icon in the taskbar as Maple when both are open. Be nice if they were slightly different.

## display command in FLow...

In Flow the display command only works with one plot. with two I get an error message.

"( in Flow:-EvaluateMath) too many levels of recursion"

## [Maple Flow] worksheet stops evaluating once I en...

I've been using Maple Flow for awhile and generally pleased with its performance...until today.

Going through my normal workflow, the sheet stopped evaluating and a little troubleshooting later it seems that the issue is that once I use a keyboard shortcut to include units, the sheet will not evaluate anything going forward.

Once

## Wrapping results in MapleFlow...

Is it possible to have the results of a MapleFlow container wrap to the next line as opposed to just extending off the page?

Thanks.

## Units and unit prefixes for engineering...

Does Maple Flow support unit prefixes?

Can I "cast" units from one prefixed form to another? For example show 1000ohm as 1Kohm?

## Maple Flow not recognizing previously defined vari...

I was having this problem with Maple Flow 2021, and just purchased Maple Flow 2022 but am still having this problem.

I define a variable, using := and an equation (that itself uses other variables that have been assigned a numeric value) and end it with an = and it is clear that the variable has a numeric value successfully assigned to it.

Lower down in the document, I use this variable, but it isn't recognized as having any numeric value or having been previously definied at all and when evaluated it stays in symbolic form.

I have tried deleting variables, renaming them without subscripts, retyping equations, etc. and nothing seems to work. Oddly most of the variables work, but some won't even though there doesn't seem to be anything special about them.

Any thoughts or advice would be greatly appreciated.

## Maple Flow - Problems printing documents...

Hello,

I am having problems printing Maple Flow documents. I have set up both a header and a footer. In the Print Preview mode, everything is fine. When I try to print to a PDF file, the header loses its format and the footer does not print at all. Printing to a printer looks the same. What settings must be selected so that the printout can be passed on as a well-formatted document?

## Re-sizing imported image...

I have been unable to re-size and imported image into a Maple Flow 2022.2 document. I just used my old Maple Flow 2021 and I had no problem. When I use Maple Flow 2022.2 I cannot re-size an imported image. I was able to re-size an imported image in Maple Flow 2022.1. Is it just me or has anybody else experienced the same problem? I also imported the image into Maple 2022.2 and had no problem re-sizing the image.

## Maple Flow 2022.2 is now available

by: Maple Flow

We've just released Maple Flow 2022.2. The update enhances the user experience in many areas, including user interaction, performance, and the interface.

Performance is a signficant focus.

• Maple Flow prioritizes the evaluation of the math you see on screen, giving you faster calculation updates for the part of the worksheet you’re working on, with more math being evaluated as you scroll down.
• We also have more users developing larger documents. Adding white space to large documents, and interacting with sections is now more response and snappier.

In response to many user requests for faster interaction, a new optional evaluation method lets you simply hit equals to evaluate math and display results.

We've also refreshed the in-product Application Gallery with a new look and many new applications (this includes a library of section properties).

You can also optionally restrict printing to the left-most column of pages, allowing you to have off-screen supporting calculations not displayed in the final report.

You'll find a complete list of enhhacements here, and you can download the update here.

## Maple Flow 2022 issue in sequences - number format...

When I try to change the number format (decimal places) of a sequence in Maple Flow using the right hand slide out context panel all numbers in the sequence are replaced by only the first number in the sequence. I'm not sure if it has been fixed in 2022.1

Selecting fixed prompts the result to stop after the first number in the series.

Can anyone else confirm this issue?
