Maple 14 - returning after not using Maple since M13...

1. Still can't figure out how to scale images and text. I tried putting an image in a table cell with some text next to it. The only way I can see is to put any images in a space by themselves and not relate them to text. What I see on the screen has little relevance to the printed product, and the only way I have found to scale images correctly is by trial and error. See #6 below for time penalty for changing a table cell size.

2. I don't get to choose the header/footer font size?

3. The footer date format is 12/1/10, which is very nearly the worst it could be, and doesn't respect my Windows settings: 2010.12.01.

4. There is no option to use the file save date rather than the current date.

5. Dragging a corner of an image changes the scaling. IMO, that's what the tabs on the sides and top/bottom are for. Dragging corners should preserve scaling.

6. Changing a cell size in a table means waiting 10 s to get full access to Maple menus and the document (dual 3.4 GHz CPU, 3 GB RAM).

7. I clicked on the Space Shuttle Sim to get an idea of what Maple can do, and then waited 10-15s while Maple played with the palettes and swapped to a new document.

I guess that Maple is about more than this, but I am [relatively] new to it, so I begin where I can...these are usability issues. I understand that Maple has been selling the doc interface for a few releases, but not made much progress.

I guess that I can kiss (no, I'm not upset, just a style of speech) off the document mode and just use the power of Maple to calculate what I need and copy the results in to a word processing program...

[a few hours later] I should say that I found some more comments on the slow interface, and took the hints to close the palettes, which sped things up quite a bit...the penalty is, of course, that I must open them to use them, and that sort of defeats the purpose. Still, if I regard them as drop menus...

There is still the issue of scaling images, and I guess from a quick glance at the included examples that Maple has not figured out how to handle images. I tried to lock the image size, but have not found a way to do so. The quick tutorial on the Maple web site was a great help in getting up to speed quickly.

I'm having a problem evaluating an indefinite integral in MAPLE 14.  I am unfortunately unable to copy/paste the code in here, but the problem is relatively simple.

I have an expression as f(x,y) and am using the "expressions" (as opposed to "int" commands) to setup up the dbl integral.  When I run the code, it is only integrating with respect to one variable.  The answer is returned as the f(x,y) integrated...

I have a list X:=[seq(i, i=1..8)] i.e. X:=[1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8]

Say I have a separate list containing for example t:=[2,5,6]. How do I remove these from my original list leaving me with X:=[1,3,4,7,8].

I have been trying subsop(t=NULL,X); however I only get the error message "Error, invalid input: subsop received (1, 2, 3) = (), which is not valid for its 1st argument"

I have 2 queestions:

1- concerned about the title font format:

the little problem in the last value q=-10 it appear theta=10 even the sign (-) invisible

I have a vector column XbIndets := (6,7,8) and I would like to gain the 3rd element of this i.e 8. I know it is possible using row function when using a matrix but am unsure how this is done when using a vector.

Error_redirect_pa.mw  i got the problem to get repeated value of unknown parameter ''ALPHA"" using pade approximation in maple. i uploted my worksheet kind watch out my problem. and give some suggessions...Error_redirect_pa.mw 

I've seen people using different approaches to choosing random numbers.  Some people favour certain methods over others. 

One example using Sample(RandomVariable(Normal(0,1)),50) used in the random walks application.  What about using something like seq(rand(-1000..1000)()/1000,i=1..50) ?  Do they both achieve the same sense of randomness?

I have figured out how to solve for corresponding values but when i try to solve the set of equations by using for example,

a :=[10 values]

b:=[10 values]

w:= [10 values]

##here i want to solve the set of equations for  [a1 b1 w1] ,[a2 b2 w1] , [a3 b3 w1]....like i want to solve the equations for all correponding values of a,b @ each w ##

i cant make it work...

I am trying to assign a new value to variable. ie: replace the value of the matrix A by the matrix B.
However, when I try to use the 'new' Matrix A, it doesn't seem to be the value that I expect...

Mathematica 8 is out and claiming over 500 new features.

Looking through the list they are mostly things that Maple does not do but probably should. Perhaps for Maple 15?...

I have two vectors ( A=(1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8), B=(2,7,8) ) and I would like to compare them to see if the elements in B are also in A, and then if they are I would like to remove them from A so I would be left with the following A=(1,3,4,5,6). Is this possible and if so how?

I cannot get Maple 9 Student Edistion to run in Windows 7. I've tried running it in compatibility mode, but it still doesn't work. Are there any software updates or patches available? Is there another Solution?
