Question: Simplifying Vibration Equations

I am looking into using Maple in an undergraduate Vibrations class and put together the attached worksheet as a sort of combination rough draft and feasibility study. The equation showing up after the algsubs command really bothers me; is there a way to remove the imaginary exponential terms and substitute trigonometric identities? The original worksheet was pretty long and developed the equation of interest. Unfortunately, it seems to be too long to be posted here. I can post or email much more information if this amount seems insufficient. Thank you, in advance! ---------------------- Single Degree of Freedom Free Vibrations Christopher D. Morgan (lots of text removed...) adding a trig substitution This is too messy; there must be a better way. (I tried many different items here... none worked... those exp( i ) terms can become sines and cosines. ) Solving directly... This is better --excellent for when zeta>1, but not quite what I am looking for when 0 <>
