It sounds like there may be a problem with the .app package that installs Maple.  If you downloaded the Maple installer, the .app package would have been extracted from the .zip file you downloaded.  Moving the .app package to a different folder (e.g. from your Downloads folder to your Desktop) should solve problem.

The x11 driver is not supported on Macintosh, but you can use the maplet plotdevice (which uses Java) instead:
