@Carl Love ok thanks Carl yes I did end up doing a conversion to a list of lists, I've just always been curious about these things

@Carl Love

Sure that's no problem well I just feel a little strange that when i "taught myself" this kind of stuff by playing around in the maple interface the superscript representation was the intuitive choice for me.

Having said that of course, i wouldn't know how to actually implement it seeings that of course we need to reserve numerical digits for computation!

It would probably be clear to me if i had first hand experience with the early developmental stages of programming and things like that.

Any way I have been using string tools to jump back and forth between number bases, and i realize that you being far more experienced and competent in programming may lead you to sheer disgust with what you see here, but this has been my DIY converter for a while now so i guess it would be a good time to learn how it's done properly.

I also want to write something up now that returns me the expression for the nth term of the sequence for the digits of a recurring fraction in any base, then likewise for irrationals and implement a rationality test via some sort of check if the sequence obtained is periodic for n approaching arbitarily large.

@Carl Love Also i just dont get the logic behind using alphabetic symbols as placeholders for digit representations above 9, a base 10 number with N digits can be taken as a representation for an x in base n for any n between 2 and N, isnt it just easier to use super scripts for digits up to the base of the numeral system you wisho represent?

@Carl Love

sprintf("%38.36f", convert(x, binary))

can you please explain for me why the 1st argument is "%38.36f" I don't understand where this comes from or how it is picked up as a binary number

@vv sure, I have explained in my response to Thomas much my reasons for asking this, but really what I am doing is trying to "spread my burden as widely as possible" across the internet in consideration of the fact that none of the people that assist me are being paid for it, and all have their own pursuits to worry about, so it's only fair i minimize the demands of my curiosity by maximizing the number of individuals, and differing forums for which i ask questions.

@Thomas Richard no no it is well and truly too late to start thinking about handing in my homework, it's approximately a decade overdue, I'm not sure what the penalties were but they can't be pleased about it!

More of a case that when I first started to take mathematics seriously, I let the maple interface teach me almost entirely. So at the stage I became confident enough to start discussing mathematics with others, alot of people from the pure mathematics community implied that i was running of "programmer's definitions" and in as much as I appreciate that some elements of their critism were well founded, and I did need to take a break from using my computer for a while, but on the other side of the coin alot of what was debated over was purely choice of notation and equivalence.

so basically it is necessary for me to open up a pure mathematics dialogue here, so that I can be assured that I don't get that book thrown at me again, I actually think some of the developers would'nt be too pleased about having some of the maple code i come out with being that of a true programmer either!

@Mariusz Iwaniuk

latex('∀j<=i')

@Carl Love how do i get maple to convert the latex for the floor brackets and not the word floor enclosing the arguement i am trying to ask a stack exchange question and they are total psychopaths so it needs to be perfect because once i have reputation points there and here, well, it can only mean ill be immeadiately hired as CEO of one the top 100

@tomleslie i thought i would need to use freeze for some reason it's really quite decieving to have this really user friendly interface that allows you to go for so long without knowing maple code properly then later down the track needing to but that's fine i don't want to get banned from here too

@tomleslie The error does not occur when i close and reopen maple.... that's pretty weird tbh.

@tomleslie It still does the same thing when i switch it to normal any ok thanks then.

@Preben Alsholm I'm sorry for any inconvienence I caused but i was able to resolve the concern i had at the time for this.

@Markiyan Hirnyk what is an SCR?

@acer Ok, well i am all ears then. Clearly i got the wrong impression somehow.

You know the guys that made this are also the ones that pretty much invented maple yes? Well, contributed significantly. I just think if this is available it will be in a package available on maple already
