Besides some confusion with the quotes, leaving out the multiplication symbol is perhaps the mistake I most frequently make.
I often get snagged by quotes and other syntaxing issues within Maple. I wish you, or someone, would list things such as this in the "book" section of the site. Sort of a book on "common mistakes". I think it would be a great "first look" resource for people who are new to the use of maple. It may even reduce the amount of repetitive problem solving scenarios within the main forums.

Doug, I for one have learned a lot from your posts. You go the extra mile to make sure your explanations are understood - thanks. Georgios, for some reason I haven't stumbled on many of your messages, but it looks like you've received some well deserved recognition.
thanks for showing me the avoid option.

That numeric specifier is what I was looking for. I knew there had to be an easier way to get that thing evaluated. The RootFinding package is something I was unaware of and am pretty anxious to give it a try.

I have a very similar problem but in WinXP if I'm not connected to the internet and open a file by just double-clicking on it. It never happens if I'm connected to the internet and it never happens if I first open Maple and then open the file from Maple's file menu. I know it sounds really strange. I reported it a while ago, both HERE and with email to support. It hasn't yet been resolved.
I think it's neat when someone unknowingly does something that provides functionality which is the same as or similar to something which has already been done. That sort of thing happens all the time and is certainly nothing to become discouraged about. I gained a little both from your contribution, and the information concerning the existance of "ToInert & FromInert". It's a very good thing, in my opinion, that you provide this kind of material here. Thanks for your contribution.
- it's good to see you so involved in the forum.
I did get your point - thanks John.
